A couple of weeks ago, Yahoo! bought Tumblr giving Yahoo! a social networking and communications hub. More importantly, this buyout will give Yahoo! access to younger users. With more than 108 million blogs and nearly 117 million unique visitors worldwide, Tumblr attracts users who are mostly between the ages of 18 to 34. If reaching a younger demographic with your product or service is important, Tumblr is a platform ideally suited to that purpose.
Moving West to Tumblr
As more and more adults create Facebook pages, the younger generation is fleeing from that popular social media site towards the social blogging platform, Tumblr. Tumblr continues to grow and average 160 million users per month.
Other than their parents joining Facebook, why are young adults and millenials moving towards short-form blogging? Tumblr specifically has popular categories that appeal to the younger generation and current trends including fashion, art, crafts, food, vintage, and designs, making it a great tool for retailers that offer products in related industries.
Tumblr’s short-form blogging layout is a reflection of the younger generation’s attention span. The mostly visual posts on Tumblr attract the younger more creative minds that are used to abstract forms of sharing through Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest and other visual based platforms.

Consider short-attention spans a push towards marketing in the moment. Marketing in the moment allows brands to create real-time content and deliver it with impact.
Move away from using valuable time creating lengthy content that can’t hold a younger audience. Not only will this push help you keep a conversation going, it will help your brand stay relevant.
