Back in 2009 an ambitious 26-year-old saw an opportunity for the public relations world. Wanting to fill a gap, Lindsey Carnett took a leap of faith and created Marketing Maven. Over the last 14 years, realizing that building a business is a marathon, not a sprint has been one of the greatest lessons. Building something successful requires dedication, hard work, and consistency. Looking back at all the accomplished milestones is rewarding, but the motivation stems from the ones still to come.

Women Entrepreneurship Day is a celebration of resilience, innovation, and empowerment. It’s a day to honor the women who have dared to dream, challenged the status quo, and carved their path in the entrepreneurial landscape.

In the past, women had to overcome many obstacles to enter the business sector. But the environment is shifting. Women are proving that entrepreneurship is not gender-specific by breaking stereotypes and social expectations.

As a young entrepreneur, Carnett faced the challenge of reverse ageism. Constantly being asked “were you even born” and “do you even remember” was frustrating, but she proved the value of a younger perspective in the ever-changing industry of PR by creating a successful full-service marketing and communications agency.

Whether it is being a women-owned business or having a strong female presence within a company, women serve a very importance role in the workforce. Women bring a unique perspective to the worktable, bringing innovation and creativity. Their ability to think outside the box and approach challenges with fresh ideas has resulted in groundbreaking products and
services that shape industries.

Along with all of the outstanding professional achievements Marketing Maven has earned, Carnett is most proud of watching her employees evolve. Watching everyone learn and grow into new positions, reach milestones, and become successful individuals in and out of the office is why she continues to be an entrepreneur.

Being an entrepreneur is more than having an idea and starting a business. It is about taking risks, using all available resources to improve your skills and knowledge, and being a role model to those around you.
